Hot Off the Press: Cover Art for The Education Issue
For the first issue to hit newsstands since the pandemic, Will Heaven writes about how AI is transforming the classroom—in a good way! The narrative around cheating students doesn’t tell the whole story. The issue explores opinions from teachers who think generative AI could actually make learning better.
Eric Mongeon, the Chief Creative Officer at MIT Technology Review, reached out to us to create the cover and supporting illustrations for this monumental issue. He was looking for something that was “striking from across the room and rewards a second look. Which is exactly what you want in a cover.”
Anne Di Lillo, HanJoon Kim, and I worked quickly to create a range of sketches and presented them all comped as the cover. The pencil nub was victorious! We shot it in our studio in Gowanus and superimposed the ChatGPT graphics on it. For the interior illos, we channeled our highschool sketchiness in an all-star notebook and on our studio chalkboard (typically used to keep foosball score).
It’s always a huge honor to work on cover art for magazines. Special thanks to Eric and the folks at MIT for trusting us with this important issue.
